About the role 

We are seeking a Photography Technician to work in our Photography department within the Digital and Creative Industries faculty. Tasks include (but are not limited to), working directly with tutors and students across both Further Education and Higher Education provision while assisting with their lessons, and inductions through workshops. The Photography Technician will be responsible for maintenance of workspaces, including the Black & White darkroom, Photographic studios, digital print facilities, and classrooms. Reporting to the Lead Technician, you will be part of a dedicated team of Digital and Creative Technicians. Although allocated to Photography, during busy periods, you will be expected to aid other members of the technical team in the faculty when required. The Photography Technician will be responsible for the Health and Safety within their department, including writing and upkeep documentation (Risk Assessments, Safe Systems of Work, COSHH, MSDS). They ensure that the department follows Health and Safety Regulations, orders and maintenance of photographic stock, troubleshooting and maintenance of the equipment and facilities. Occasionally, you will be expected to work some additional hours to assist in facilitating events both internally and externally. 

About the person 

The ideal candidate must be somebody with excellent industry and practical experience as a Photographer and darkroom practitioner. The Photography Technician will be expected to assist students and staff with traditional and digital photography methods. The right candidate will have complete responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the darkroom, expertise, and an excellent understanding of the use of darkroom chemicals, the black and white printing process, and alternative processes undertaken in the darkroom to allow exceptional art to be produced. Fundamental knowledge in the configuration and function of Professional Photography studios is imperative to understand studio flash and mixed lighting scenarios and to complement the use of digital printing technologies and editing software within the Adobe Creative Cloud provision. The ideal candidate will be a team player, passionate, and have the ability to work under pressure and against tight deadlines. Someone with a credible qualification in Photography would be highly advantageous. They must be highly organised, flexible, and able to schedule their workload to be divided between the different levels when required. Their ability needs to demonstrate sustained and breakthrough innovation within a fast-paced, creative environment.
