We require a Performing Arts Technician to assist the Performing Arts Department within the Digital and Creative Industries faculty with tasks including (but not limited to); working directly with tutors and students across both FE and HE levels, to assist with their lessons and workshops, and to bring to life our extensive list of annual showcases. The ideal candidate will be working on building props and sets, managing the extensive costume collection (including fixing, washing and purchasing of garments/accessories), preparing the lighting, the use of the Tallescope, and using the Theatre seating rig. The Performing Arts technician will be responsible for the Health and Safety aspects within their department, including writing and upkeep of documentation (Risk Assessments, Safe Systems of Work, COSHH, MSDS/SDS sheets), ensuring that these areas are following H&S Protocols, and maintenance of the spaces/machinery/equipment. During busy periods you will be expected to work some late nights and weekends to assist facilitating Performing Arts events both internally and externally.
Reporting to the Lead Technician, you will be part of a dedicated team of Digital and Creative Technicians. Although assigned to Performing Arts, during busy periods you will be expected to assist other members of the Technician team in different areas within the Digital and Creative Industries Faculty when needed.
We require someone qualified and educated in Performing Arts (Degree Level would be desirable), and must have great experience of working within the Performing Arts industry. The successful candidate must be experienced with lighting, and preferably had past exposure to using a Tallescope (although full training will be provided upon appointment of the role), and have good knowledge of prop/set builds and Theatrical costume. The right candidate must be a team player, highly organised, passionate, able to work under pressure and against tight deadlines. Someone willing to demonstrate innovation and initiative in this fast paced, creative environment would be best suited to the role.
