About the role

The Learner Services Department are looking to appoint a motivated and enthusiastic Guidance Officer to join our friendly and hard working Guidance Team. This is a diverse role, providing information, advice and guidance (IAG) to all learners and potential applicants on a range of careers, course options and pastoral issues.

Duties will include:

  • Providing a support service that facilitates learner participation, attendance, retention, achievement and progression and providing the Head of Learner Services with information and reports as required.
  • Provide careers guidance to learners both one to one and through group activities
  • Provide information, advice and guidance on the availability of support, financial support, welfare and counselling services, acting as a member of the safeguarding team and making relevant referrals as required.
  • Liaise with internal and external agencies to maximise recruitment, progression and achievement, including identifying any learners at risk of leaving and implementing measures to provide support.
  • To contribute to learner enrolment and induction activities.

About the person

The successful candidate will have confident communication skills and the ability to provide excellent customer service on a broad range of support needs, being proactive about finding out further information when necessary.

Candidates should also have:

  • Recent and relevant experience of providing IAG.
  • A relevant level 3 qualification or the willingness to work towards.
  • Careers education or IAG qualification at level 4 or above or the willingness to work towards.
  • Knowledge of career progression routes and relevant frameworks (Gatsby Benchmarks)
  • Understanding of the barriers to education for young people and adults.
  • Awareness of safeguarding.
